jonnygt
Wanting as much power as i can for my n/a ive got the 75bhp im guessing atm as its a S-reg so itll be gen2 engine??What mods are needed to reach around 100bhp mark? Inlet? Induction? Manifolds? Help please....
Flynn
I'd guess you'd be lucky to still be making 75bhp after 15 years motoring but......Aftermarket panel filter/induction kitCorolla inlet manifold4-2-1 manifold or 4 to 1 (exhaust mani)Decat exhaust?Injectors from a corolla iircThis has been covered over and over and these are the bits I can remember off the top of my head....but I'm pretty sure most people will tell you it's an expensive mission trying to break a 100bhp with an n/a starlet and your better addressing weight and handling!I'm sure you'll get a better answer from someone else though
Amjad
Ryan is the man to ask! He'll be pursuing tuning his NA too
mikey4410
i would throttle bodie it for sure.somebodys recently done it at very low cost
PaulStarletSR
dont forget me, i know what in doin with these aswell lol ul need corolla inlet, 4 to 1 corolla manifold or an obx 1 (could go custom if u want), corolla injectors, also itd be worth doin your research into chopin up the loom from a corolla to try mate its ECU to your starlet loom. Lightweight pulleys, lightweight flywheel, do away with the powersteerin to free up some power, cold air induction kit situated right at the front of the engine bay, megasquirt piggy back ecu, u could also whack in a corolla 6speed gearbox (wont do nuthin for power but theyr awesome), and last but not least, full stainless decatted exhaust, 5efhe cams and a thinner head gasket for higher compression!! if i remember anythin else, il add! best of luck Edited August 7, 2013 by PaulStarletSR
Ryan5793
i managed 93.5bhp with a exhaust mani, custom exhaust, panel filter and cj leads, pulled quiet well and now have a jdm inlet mani which made mine even better tho not been on the rollers again since.
rmsnoel
Corolla inlet manifold, 4afe throttlebody, four branch exhaust manifold in that order. Keep everything else standard and buy a cheap safc off ebay to up the fueling. When u get the throttlebody make sure and take the spacer too.Your standard injectors have a better spray pattern. If u want u can use the fte pressure regulator which ends in 040 as all the jap cars use it where as our uk cars use 070. I havnt tested the pressures yet though. Fozzie
People keep saying about Corolla injectors but I don't see how they'd help power? Even with the extra capacity, surely they wouldn't help until you'd maxed out the original ones, which you'd probably never manage anyway with n/a tuning? :/

Theres lots of different values quoted for them online 155 175 195 205cc, no one knows. The 4afe throttlebody (with spacer) from a 1.6 corolla or celica is 50mm and a direct fit for the starlt. Fair enough youll need the rubber intake pipe too.
jonnygt
Ill have to keep an eye out for all these parts havnt a clue where to start! Will have to look in the scrapyards i guess....thanks for the answers lads! Cheers
AdamB
The best thing you can do is to weld up the intake ports in the head. They are far too large for an N/A an loose you gas velocity, this isn't a problem with a turbo motor as the air is being force fed into the cylinder, relying upon vacuum alone from the piston moving down to BDC you need as much velocity as possible. The ports even on the turbo motor are too large and people have made 300+bhp on a stock cylinder head, so they are way too large for an N/A. You'll probably gain quite easily 5% increase in power. daniel_g
Im gonna go down this route with my JDM Carat when i can be bothered Already has the Glanza S inlet and the coilpack with it being the Gen 3 4EFE. Exhaust mani is the same as a UK i think though.
jonnygt
I havnt a clue which one mine is tbh im clueless and getting confused haha
rmsnoel
You can buy the e10 corolla exhaust manifold from ebay.de for £20 and the downpipe for £30 then have it welded to your exhaust for £5 and thats how u get a gen1 4_2_1 maniold. Or buy the obx one from america. Makes abit of a different but more importantly it gives the exhaust a really cool note
RobSR
You don't need to chop up the loom for a corolla Ecu to fit. They plug straight in, it just won't run unless you swap the immobiliser chip from your ep Ecu. I did the whole corrola stuff when I had the n/a , I'm 99% sure the rolla injectors are the yellow tops and 225cc. Ecu has a higher rev limit too,
ryan lang
This is a list of all the things I'd done/planned to do to my old n/a before I was laid off and went back to school. The most important thing to gain power is the mapping/ecu section to take advantage of all the modifications, without it you'll be lucky to see 100 because the standard ecu just can't cope N/A Performance List Engine:5EFHE cams (not 5EFE)Lightened pulley setsHead skim for compressionPorted headValve springs (there are some uprated valves springs for 4EFTE that can be used in the 4EFE. Eg: speedvision, cruise)Exhaust:4-2-1 corolla bugeye exhaust manifoldOBX racing 5e manifoldHotshots 4e manifold (rocking horse shit, hens teeth etc)Custom mani back exhaust (or cat-back)HeatwrapFuelling:Corolla bug eye injectors (beige/brown in color)Fuel Pressure Regulator (to help with map)After market Uprated Ignition leadsSpark plugs NGK heat range 6 or 7)Could go coilpacks if going nuts but probably not needed)Inlet:Corolla bug eye inlet (tubular manifold)4efte inlet manifold4efte Throttle BodyCooling:Civic alloy dual/triple core radiator (personal preference on core)Air filter (apexi is tried and tested, but whatever you can afford)Low temp thermostatDrive train: Lightened flywheels (various after market ones available)If you go for an off the shelf flywheel, you may need to buy the equivalent FTE clutch kit because the n/a lightened flywheels are really hard to come byCorolla G6r 6 speed gearbox (requires shifter unit and cable mount brackets, possibly the actual selector cables) i may be wrong but its do-ableLightened and balanced crank (if your going all out why not. should get the clutch and flywheel balanced at the same time as the crank)LSD (they are available for the n/a 5 speed but rare. same as the 6speed. best off buying a glanza box and lsd if you dont go 6speed Management:Best way to go is aftermarket ecu, Emanage, Motec, Megasquirt etc (key modification to get the best out of these mods, if your going this crazy)THEN to control all the gained power (probably only around 30bhp if your lucky)Brakes:Levin Twinpot callipers and corolla d4d discs (unsure if they are the correct discs, but there are enough people on here runnign sets to find out)Celica st205 Twinpots (think they are the same as the levin twinpots)Celica st185 big pot calliper (unsure on discs but will refer back to this when i do)GT/Glanza carriers and disc'sThen there are the bigger aftermarket kits like wms, k-sport willwood etc. (bit overkill but if you like flashy then go for it)Suspension/Chassis:Whiteline adjustable rear anti-roll barFront and rear strut bracesCoilovers (dont go lowering springs if your buying for performance)I found the c-pillar bar helped aswellAnti lift kitUprated front anti-roll barPolybush engine mountsAny other various strengthening barsTyres! The biggest difference maker is weight saving for straightline power. so what ever you dont need, get gone (rear seats, right through to smaller batteries and taking a dump before travelling etc) Handling is also the best sector to be modifying these cars in for track use, if you dont want to be shedding out a shed load of dollar AND MOST OF ALL: keep it serviced and looked after! rmsnoel
Another thread gone to shit. How comes the dutch n germans see 100hp easily without all this mad dog balls throw money at it stuff
ryan lang
Only know of 2, one I can't remember his name and one is motion, oh who's done a lot of the above. I'm not saying you need everything above to make 100bhp, it's just a lot of what can be done. But most of the above is just bolt on. Swap for swap no spacers and fittings needed making up etc.
turbo Grant
You can bolt on all the parts but with out it being tunned you will never have any massive or benificial gains.
morgey
Just drop a 5efe in and be done with it.Or if really hunting n/a power put a hi revving n/a engine in like a 4age. Prob be done cheaper than hunting around buying all them parts. My first 16v 4age swap cost me around £700 on the road

motion
Yes i am one of these germans and the other one is sharki. But i must say meanwhile i suspect my dyno result ...maybe i have "only" 100 bhp because i have the same mods like a few na owners from the uk wich have reached about 100 bhp Maybe i was on a dyno that makes people happy ;-)I dont care ....it pulls well and nothing more counts Sorry for my bad English ....but i think since i am on this board it got better :-)
