♛ Charlotte's EP70 Turbo- MOT Passed!

Recommended Posts

Another project! Currently have the GT advance which a fair few of you will have seen at shows, the Red GT turbo that I bought as a non runner and sprayed/built back up, the glanza that refused to live and last but not least the little EP70 gem.

So long story short, Sam bought this about a year ago now. We went and collected it on a trailer from Manchester and it's been stored in the lock up ever since. Collected a full set of spare panels, clocks, lights, grill, sills etc etc from a very nice chap on here (I'm really sorry if you read this dude but I can't remember your name).

Then some time down the line, we agreed to a swap! My 5 door red NA EP80 (which at the time I was using as a daily) for the EP70. Done deal.

So recently I've been bored of not having a project on the go and decided to make a start! Picked a colour to spray it (the replacement panels were all silver, and if I sprayed them the same white as the car it would be mega obvious the difference in old/new paint). So I went for fiat 232B mocha latte. But of a love/hate colour but I think it suits the era of the car ????

Plans are;

Full respray
GT Turbo rear axle/brakes
GT turbo front hubs/brakes
4efte
Slam it
Strip and paint the rear interior
Handling upgrades
Power steering rack from GT turbo
Reasonable wire tuck/custom wiring in the bay to tidy it up

Something a little different and I do love the boxys ????

I've already got a wee spoiler from browner for it, a GT engine loom for the fte conversion power steering rack and set up, and a few other little bits and bobs.

And I've already started painting some panels. Any ways here's some pics ????

On the trailer when we picked it up

Cool! I'm just thinking of getting a P7 for my self too. :) just sold my old winter EP91.

If I buy it I'll probably go for stance rather than power. :)

How much did you pay for it? These are quite rare in Finland but there's one I know for 850 €.

That's bargain. :D

The one I'm looking at is with 1E engine and it would stay like that for a while. I'd just love to have a cool and low old school ride to scrape around on a nice summer day. :D

Coilovers, front lip and 15x8 rims and maybe a deep dish steering wheel would be enough for me at first.

Yeah £150 was a good deal- it obviously wasn't road worthy but still ran and drove etc. plenty of spares too.

It looks just like baileys when i mix it up in the cup, looks so tasty haha. nice colour to spray too.

Sprayed the spoiler now and Just in the middle of spraying/smoothing the bootlid :)

Little more progress this weekend, the first weekend in forever that I haven't been busy with horses/other things. Got a spare tailgate with all the other panels and it happened to be a dx boot lid (no fog light to the right of the Reg plate) so got that sprayed up.

Also stripped the front end down. Took the loom etc off so that the engine is ready to come out. Only thing left now is to unbolt the mounts, exhaust and driveshafts. Only took a few hours. And not a single bolt snapped! Gift!

Bit of genuine rust on the original wing... Hence the replacement panels.

Little bit more progress

Took the bonnet off and started to prep the underneath for paint. It was horrendously dirty/oily and covered in years and years worth of crap.

Plenty of panel wipe and elbow grease...

Primer...

And then I painted it silver base, then went over the silver base with a purple pearl. Hard to get decent photos of the purple pearl flip but it does look subtle but sexy in person!

Didn't come out too bad considering the state it was in. Few bits dropped in it but unless you're spraying in a booth it's going to happen, let alone spraying in an old chicken shed (my unit).

Hoping to get the doors and front valence done next, then just the body to spray. Also aim to drop the engine asap and get started on the bay. A friend has borrowed the engine crane for the time being though so may have to just drop the engine on the floor haha

Finally managed to get the engine out tonight. I struggled a fair bit taking the hubs off and cracking the driveshaft nuts off. Managed it all myself apart from Sam having to jump on the breaker bar to get one of the shaft nuts off. I don't think some of those bolts had been off since it was built in 1987 haha. Bloody tight doesn't even come into it! But got there in the end!

Here's me looked exhausted after getting the last strut/hub off.

Then after I got back from seeing to the horses out came the engine! Taking the engine itself out was easier than taking the hubs off!

Out with the old and in with the new (soon hopefully)

Plenty of panel wipe and it came up pretty good in the bay. Going to go over it again and then get it in primer hopefully tomorrow.

Also managed to get on of the spare doors painted. The bonding that held the bump strip on was a nightmare to get off! Razor blade and some tar and glue remover...
