Overheating...got half an idea need gurus
AdamB replied to weddy1988's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
Do a diagnostic test for the EML light mate. You should try and bleed the cooling system of air locks, Morgey explains how above. The thermostat seal normally breaks on them, remove it and check or even replace, they are a known common problem and for the sake of a few quid its worth swapping for a new one. -
They are Wossner forged pistons mate.

If the thermostat isn't opening then thats your problem. The temp gauge will still work as it takes the feed from a single wire spade connection on the housing -
Looks a ton better painted and the intercooler there mate
-
Wow that really is a small world. He gets around a fair bit then!
-
It sounds too risky, especially with a manual boost control which any Tom,Dick can just wind the adjuster, not knowing a lot about the car doesn't really help either. It would only be worth a punt if you could take the sump off in my eyes.
-
Has he?! lol, it wouldn't suprise me to be fair that thing is a bit of an animal as well. Whats he under on facebook? EPS or Dave Rowe?
-
Thats a fair amount of wonga! Love those dashes, I'm sure they are pretty simple to fit though because the Motec offers a CAN system. lol go back and help the planet
-
True, throw it through his window lol. Whys it only running 16psi though? What turbo as well?
-
You'll only get piston slap on the Wiseco pistons, the Wossner's have a lot more silicone in them allowing them to have a tighter piston-cylinder clearence. A compression test wouldn't really tell the whole story, because it could well have low compression forged pistons, but if the head has been skimmed and it will bring the compression back upto stock. Really the best thing is to use a bore scope (although only checks pistons) or remove the sump. Wait till you get home and remove the sump and check to make sure, am sure you could get a refund as it was sold as something it wasn't.

That would be mega day for sure . Some say Dave can map a Motec in an hour from scratch, so would be pretty cheap. Apparently his labour rate is like £50/hour which I don't think is bad at all for the experience/knowledge that your getting. Is your mate just waiting for Dave to get back from America to get it mapped?
-
Painted, lowered and an intercooler to fill the gap. You may think its big and bulky because theres nothing else there to draw your eye to, but once you get a rad, air filter and cooler in there it will soon change
-
Looks a clean car mate, and the best colour for a GT I think! Be nice to see what direction this heads in
-
Yeah he is mate, spoke to him on Thursday last week saying he was going to America to fiddle with some Pikes peak motors, not back till end of the month/early July. Guys got a fucking immense job lol. Have you seen his Audi Quattro? That is some car!
-
Thanks mate, just need to wait for Mr Motec to come back from America to take it up there and get it wiped. Still waiting on my drill bits and apparently they should be here on the 19th, so fingers crossed then I can get started on the front.
-
Yeah it was mate.
-
I didn't think they were that comfortable with quite a harsh ride tbh. My mate took me out in his, handled really well and was pretty nippy round town, but not sure if it would make a friendly day to day car.
-
Believe you can ask for which one you require parts for. Although as fair as I'm aware it purely is just the 2 gears which are different, the use the same synchro's, bearings, etc.
-
Was the re-shell a different year? Some of the sensors on the thermostat housing have different plugs between years. Have you checked the map sensor is plugged in and has a good vacuum source?
-
You must have an ecu mate, stock rev limit is 7200rpm?
-
Have to say, it looks better than the Rota's mate! Does look proper mean from the front as well, don't think theres anything more you could do to make it better

Stiffer chassis and stops it from flexing, especially where the suspension strut meets the car body Looking good Jake, need to start putting the car back together
-
Thanks mate, needs a good clean but I'll get round to that Ta buddy I hope so mate, been a long time coming, just need to get the shell upto scratch. Waiting on some drill bits before I can finish it off. Wasn't really in the market for an ECU yet if I'm honest, but came across it on the off chance at a price I couldn't refuse
-
Not necessarily, it may only push into into the expansion bottle when the headgasket is under its most stress, which is at full load.
-
Thanks mate. If it wasn't the price I got it for I wouldn't have gone for it, was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time
