read this about heat wrapping and its very interesting
AdamB replied to mikey4410's topic in Intake, Turbo & Exhaust
I agree that ceramic coating is better, from what I've seen anwyay. But I wouldn't say that heat wrap is useless by any means. There was a more constructive test done a little while back, can't remember what car or forum, think it was posted on here anyhow, where some guy did an experiment by actually placing a themometer around the engine bay to measure temps, stock, with heat wrap, and with heat + reflective tape. All products from DEI, and he did have very good results in terms of keeping heat out of the engine bay. That said, it does come down to the material of the metal you use, -
First I've ever heard someone say that. Maybe you have a problem elsewhere?
-
Hmm I suppose you can do it that way if you know how to lol. Not the way I would do it though. I would say that method would be the way to check the run out of the cam and the base tolerences.
-
I don't see how that works because the crank rotates twice for every one revolution of the cam.
-
It may not be a pointer nose, it may be that the base is different is what I was trying to say. The height rarely means anything to go by, I would deffinately try get hold of a DTI to measure properly.
-
Its cracking stuff mate, and their customer service is shit hot as well. Like I say it's a bit of a pain having to wait, but if your not in any rush like I am it's the perfect stuff!
-
How are you measuring? I take it you are refering to the height from base to nose? The 4EFE and 5EFE have the same cam characteristics, the duration of the cam is measured from the clearence ramp up till when the cam starts producing lift. You may find the base circle of the cam's differ but this essentially doesn't affect the lift or duration the cam produces.

You shouldn't get any wheelspin if you control the clutch properly. It's only if you go really light with the flywheel like 2.5kg you will get wheelspin even just setting off, but that lightweight makes it a nightmare to drive. Most aftermarket flywheels are around the 4-4.5kg mark so can't see it being a problem.

Got round to applying my third coat of the gel today after leaving the previous coat for around 36 hours, this is how it came out after I washed the old coat off On the large section at the top, you can just see it's started to go back to bare metal where it's coming through in silver patches Applied a thick third coat and hoping this will be the last one to do, have wrapped it up again and will leave it for another 24-36 hours before removing. Have to say overall I'm very happy the way it's coming out, it's not exactly a quick process, although o

If your going to change the clutch then you might as well whilst your at it, if your not changing the clutch I wouldn't bother tbh. They do make a difference and it really free's up the engine but it is a bit of a ballache to fit a round piece of metal lol.

9 months? That all, try 2 years and 4 months and still the end is no where in sight for me Keep ploughing through mate, no matter how hard it gets your be happy with the end results when it comes around!
-
True, bad habit of mine lol. What turbo did cruise run? Is the HKS GT2835 bigger than the 2876 then?
-
Cheers mate I'll check it out

Eat right, sleep right, protein, meats and just sticking at it. I've been at the gym now for 6 weeks and noticed a fair big difference in my body shape.
-
Not many drifters as such round here, but plenty of the local chav mobiles with their loud corsa's and halfords clio's lol. No takers as of yet

Correct, but they don't raise the octane rating as much as they say, if at all. Remember if you have 35 litres of 95 RON, then add 1 litre of someting which is supposed to raise it 2 points to say 97 RON, the dilution rate is way in favour of 95 and that's what it stays at. You need aftermarket management/remap to make the most of higher octane anyway to have more ignition lead. Anyway RON ratings mean fuck all, it's the MON rating you need to be looking at.
-
They don't do nothing and won't raise the octane at all, its all marketing bullshit. The dilution rate has no effect on raising the octane at all, the fuel will only ever be at the octane you put in the tank.

I know this has been covered millions of times, but I can't find what I'm looking for, seems as if all the links in the How 2's section are dead and are of no use. I picked up an N/A sportif without a rev counter, am I right in thinking that the starlet CD dials are a straight swap with no messing about with wires? Also the glanza/paseo dial swap need some wires switching around, does anyone have a guide which works as to what wires on what plugs that need to be swapped? Thanks Adam

Just bunged it on gumtree, will see how it goes. Need to get rid asap really as I've not got the room to keep it.
-
Ay mate I was thinking that like, but it's got so many problems it's not worth it. Got no windows as both the regulators are fucked, although I do have 2 for it. The ABS light is on, missing the drivers side wing mirror glass. Just don't think anyone would be interested tbh.

Ay mate I know, I was offered £75 for my old Corsa sport which was in very good nick. This is a BMW 316i compact I'm trying to get rid of as I've just bought another daily so this eneds to go. I've got a rare optional extra arm rest as well which I'm told I can get about £80 for, so if I sell that then I can get back virtually what I paid for the car. Just wondering if anyone recommends anything than the usual places you see advertised on telly.
-
Was that without the belt on?
-
Will be pretty laggy and not much power to go with it tbh. The 2876 is the largest trim size in the GT28 range, with the added compressor wheel weight it will spool slower than the likes of the 2860, 2871, and not really gain much more top end power. I think Ryan is using the 2876 on his glanza making practically 400bhp.
-
Just another thing to mention, it might be the bearing in either the alternator or water pump.
-
Does anyone know the best places to sell your car to these scrappage companies like we buy any car? I was quoted £175 for my car but wondering if anyone knows companies which offer good rates. Thanks Adam
