series70boy
hello starleters im back and have a massive update for you! this is going to get pretty picture heavy! switch to a better device, if your gonna struggle loading! i have now held my licence for 1 year and started driving the ep back in about june 2013 the car got tucked away under a cover during the 2012 winter and came out february 2013 in a real state! any work done previously has been reversed! the car was a real shitter! but still solid as a rock structurally! here are some photos of the decay and the impending strip down! a strip down of the car was definitely in order. everything off, bumpers, vallance, bonnet, wings the whole job! while the wings were off the arch liners came out, the while inside of the arch was wire brushed and degreased, looked shit after that too! rust was treated with hammerite kurust, (suprisingly works an absolute treat!) then rather than filthy sticky waxoyl, a nice coat of brush on, hammered finish blue hammerite! (dont hate, its tough and protective) shocks and springs letdown the whole area so they were removed and got the same treatment. i also replaced the lower ball joints and the track rod end while i was in that area.the hubs were removed and cleaned with new bearings fitted. the wishbones were treated to a sand blast and some black paint. adding more photos once i get photobucket to accept them!give me an hour! series70boy
and a little continuation! thought it would be a great idea whilst the car was this far striped to do the brakes up entirely too!!!so the refurbished suspension and a painted up caliper! and sneak shot of things getting put into place things are starting to look really promising with the build, everything going together nicely and looking so extremely clean!it get especially exciting when new goodies come through the post! my two new wings and a new valance all arriving in the space of a week, of to be painted they go! and some nice new import plates will set this little baby off!! painted valance just a sign of things to come!! being a typical 18 year old i got all over excited as i was due to turn 19, photographing breaks stopped and work was done, all in good time and to an exceptional standard ( thanks to dads help and expertise!). all arch liners were removed and cleaned properly with spray on gunk! took 5 applications to get it clean enough.even then i was not happy, they had gone grey with time! had to be sorted out, so a trip to halfrauds was made and black vinyl bumper paint was purchased, i tell you it made a huge difference, does not crack, does not spread! really great quality stuff to be fair! here is how the new wings look, with arch liners refitted using stainless bolts, all suspension fitted, calipers refurbished, new brake hoses, new discs and new pads a real step p in how this car looked next task was to sort out the rear of the car! all the inside of the arches had been completed to the same standard as the front, but with no access to new rear quarter panels other than those in germany and malaysia it was time to get out the welder and the protective spray paint between welding sessions! more photos to come still, need to get photobucket sorted! after each photo is uploaded safari has to restart meaning i loose the ukso post i have just made!back in a min folks!! series70boy
now then fellas! there was a lot of haters towards my cheap 15 inch ripspeeds! a little reminder of what they looked like! so whilst all of that work was going on i had a look to see what new rims i could get! took a trip to my local scrap yard and picked up a real bargain!a full set of 4 vw polo 14's! ina vile silver colour with some terrible corrosion! but £70 with 4 good tyres could not be passed up! got to a tyre fitter and had the tyres removed then set to work on the refurbishment! here are the beauties! gloss black and so much laquer! looking amazing if i do say so myself! some will now notice a set of lovely blue d2 race wheel nuts just poking through! off to the tyre fitter for some balancing, valves and the cleaned tyres back on! also a red trim insode the bumpers for a better overall look! rear of the car finally getting sorted with real carbon fiber plate behind the reg plate! freshley painted wiper arm and boot handle! under the bay also get a bit of treatment as a kind of final touch!! so there you go! thats whats went on between december 2012 and june 2013! hope you have enjoyed watching this build as much as i enjoyed completing it!! series70boy
here are some shots of how the old girl stands now! jan 2014, in august this car will be 29 years of age! she a lovely car to drive, just hit 53000 miles! today i am expecting 4 new kyb shock absorbers to arrive, to be followed in about days by a set of Pi 40mm lowering springs. in a couple of weeks i will be taking the car to powerflow stafford (unique exhausts) to have a 2.5 inch, maybe 3 inch stainless system made with one box!that coupled to a k&n panel filter should get the car sounding better! it will also be going to 'mikeanics' where it will have new points, plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm. the timing and the fueling will be set up on the rolling road and then a dyno run to see what power she is outputting! THEN THE NEXT THING ON THE CALENDER IS JAPFEST 2014 Y0!

turbo Grant
It's basically a direct fit. Just need to wack the chassis leg with a hammer and the throttle cable is a tight fit. You could find one off a differnt car to fit if you don't like the sound of that

You could find one off a differnt car to fit if you don't like the sound of that sounds brutal! and the throttle cable comes trough separate so what makes that tight? Neil69
The servo is physically bigger so pushes against the cable but it does make a massive difference to the brakes having the larger servo. You need to change one of the pipes to it as well from the gt as the position has moved. Its only a short pipe on bulkhead
series70boy
nice advice thanks fellas! might do that at some point!
