Dan_Henderson
hi lads , is it possible to just bolt on a turbo to the 4efe on a budget with sump mods, oil feed mods and decompression plate?is it worth it?
Josh@TunerLifestyle
dont think so. not without alot of work anyway
morgey
Im sure one of the traders on this forum did it, ran low boost but said they had fairly good results. Ill have a quick look about see if i can did it up
Dan_Henderson
suppose i best get saving for a 4efte then , wouldnt mind something with vtec dropped in

Dan_Henderson
I've emailed mike at TD so hopefully he might be able to answer a few of my questions, thanks lads
daniel_g
Sure rob h has had a few different turbo'd N/A setups. Might be worth dropping him a pm man.
Mike@TD.co.uk
I've just dropped you an email back Dan, we've turbo'd a stock 4EFE before, would be cool to push one a little further! Recently did a 1.6GLX Mitsubishi Colt which had great results with an EManage Blue and a TD05 turbo.Power on the Colt went from 89bhp to 172bhp at low boost with torque going from 99lb.ft to 196lb.ft!CheersMike JonesTuning Developments Ltd
Amjad
Would be interesting to see if a 4efe could run a CT9 reliably for a long time
lukEp
Its possible but your best using a bigger turbo on low boost for better reliability. Really a decompression plate would be used but there not available for the 4e/5e engine.
Socks
Conrods are the same as the glanza 4efte's i think.. but pistons are different...You could use a hg to lower the compression, its something that needs investigating. The price of fte's is going up to silly money now and there getting rare! So turbo'ing an FE maybe a better option soon!Check out RobH's build Thread, he did exactly that! Rob H@RCH Engineering
one of the main things to watch out for is the N/A valve springs are like coat hanger wire lol they are very weak compared to the turbo ones. I was running a boosted 4efe in 2001 for the best part of a year till the head gasket failed due to the heater matrix poping. I was running a 0.6-1.0 of boost on a EMB but it was never dynoed so I have no idea what the power was but it was as quick as a stock GT. It was a completely stock 4efe too nothing was changed at all on the engine I just made the stock n/a manifold take a turbo.
AdamB
Did jay not do this but ran like 1bar to see how long it lasted on phone so can't find threadI'm sure his is still running!Thread here:http://www.toyotagtturbo.com/forums/showthread.php?90151-Detonator-V-Boosted-4EFE Edited December 6, 2012 by AdamB
loguey
So after a little browsing and cramming of knowledge, essentialy all you really need to do is change the pistons and the valve springs to turbo a fe?
daniel_g
Headgasket too, you'll obv need a thicker one than the N/A. I'd change the conrods to GT/Glanza ones.
morgey
if you were only to run low boost u could run about 130-40ish hp on a stock 4efe with k24 turbo strapped to it fte injectors some form of management and a front mount etc it would be ok
daniel_g
I think that soon enough everybody will be running turbo'd N/A engines once all the FTE's are dead haha
morgey
are there any differences in oil pumps and pressures? i mean you start chucking boost into an n/a with pistons and supporting mods with a normal pump is that going to be able to supply the necessary oil that the fte pump is designed for? but for cheap easy motoring, buy someones old ct9 setup injectors and fmic, emb or some form of piggyback and to be safe a slightly lower pressure actuator and you could be boosting fairly cheaply i recon! JTStarlet92
Could this work for 5efe aswell? I may try this in summer
daniel_g
Is it only the stroke thats different on the 5E engine ? Also i standard GT rods here if they are any use to you dude.
JTStarlet92
I have everything I need bar the turbo and ecu but thanks anyway bud! I'm gonna give this a go and make a write up
