dan106 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Well, I hit a pothole on my way home from work Monday, was flat on Tuesday morning, finally got to have a look at it today and this is what I found Ive heard bits and bobs about claiming off of the local council, does anyone on here know the law/rules on this? If so, how do I go about it? Cheers! Quote
TurboTobz Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 take pics of the pot hole lodge a complaint to your local council, if its not marked apparantley they have to sort you out Quote
TrisK Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I imagine they won't pay out as they will blame the weaker sidewall due to the stretch Quote
bucketep91 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I think its if someone else has reported the same pothole then they will pay out.Sore one tho! Anydamage to the wheel? Quote
Nanglebadger Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 its worth a punt but when Jay tried it for mine he didnt have any luck. Phil. Quote
MARC MOSS Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Buy a new tyre dude the council are cunts Quote
fremyjay Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Yeah they are arseholes, my mate tried and apparently the pothole has too be a certain size before they will even look at your application, then they will drag it out and find anyway too not pay Quote
_shaun_ Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I've known a few people trying to get money off the council for damage due to pot holes. Aparantly they just make it a nightmare n make u go round In Circles till you give up. different councils might be better for it tho I supose Quote
Liam_D Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Fucking hell that's pretty bad! You'll just have to bite the bullet dude, council won't pay out. Quote
smithyithy Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 As above unfortunately, if it's a council road and not a managed area contract road, chanced of a payout are slim to none. In either case you'd have to almost kill yourself to get any compensation, sad isn't it Quote
asbo-v Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Wheels buckled too by the looks of pics sorry to hear but you can try your chances but take photos of the pothole as evidence Quote
StarletSr? Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I've successfully claimed off my council due to pot holes and got enough money to buy my first starlet.Always worth a try Quote
mattyD Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 ^^ this guy knows how to work the system haha! Quote
dan106 Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 Thought itd be a massive pain in the arse, I'll send em some pics of it anyway, at least hopefully then they'll fix the ducking hole! Luckily I haven't got the rears on so I had a spare tyre at home. And yeah the wheel needed 50g weights to balance it after this, dunno why we pay car tax sometimes.... Quote
StarletSr? Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) ^^ this guy knows how to work the system haha! When I say mine I mean yours to! It was on the long ashton bypass! Edited October 30, 2013 by StarletSr? Quote
1991 starlet owner Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Yeah councils are definitely a waste of time with anything let alone trying to get money out of them. I don't think there is an honest councilor out there. They're all just in it for themselves. Mind you if you're in the Freemasons then you won't even have to ask!! ;) Quote
Chris Green Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 The pot hole needs to be marked to claim it back. There is certain criteria which still needs to be met. If the wheels have been changed from the manufacturers specifications they must have the same dimensions. So if your car came standard with 15 inch wheels and 50mm tyre profile, you need to have the same spec wheels for them to pay out. My dad successfully claims for an IS200 wheel, completely standard though. Quote
dan106 Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 Yeah my wheel and suspension specs are far from standard ones, i bit the bullet and ordered a new tyre anyway, luckily i get rainsport 2's for £45! Quote
TimD Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Never had this happen to me before and the roads are really bad in Sheffield, I guess it must be something to do with only buying tyres that are fit for purpose? Quote
lee0100 Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 could be worse mate this is what happened when i hit a pot hole Quote
Aamir Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Get a hammer and chisel Dan and go to the pot whole and hammer the fuck out of it. Make it bigger so they have to pay you out Quote
