morgey
Absolutely lovin the work man. I always thort use the bonnet sticker on the boot and do away with the starlet logoCheers man I See ya thinking but deffo going full sleeper ;)awesome mateWell the cars off the road for a few weeks so took it for a quick drive before putting it in my mates garage so hers a last hoorah for a bit!And this is why its off the road! One semi stripped c52 lsd box ;)Pretty sure 2nd and 5th gear are fucked, 5th is visually, not got to 2nd but it crunches like mad! So luckily got a 2nd box to nick parts from which has a mint 5th gear but got to get both shafts from both boxes stripped down so we can make a good box from both. Im also having both gearsets inspected by a gearbox specialist.Might be needing a new 2nd gear and hub which will be about £260 then im getting new syncros and bearings throughout. Not looking forward to the total cost but should be able to do it for £400 max and never have to worry about it again. Will find out after i get the verdict from J.R Dains.Oh also found out the bearings are mostly standard koyo bearings so no need for silly toyota prices there ;)And since its booked in for a track day on the 24th i have still got a spare gearbox just incase (might drop one of the lsd's in if i have to ) Edited May 30, 2013 by morgey
Broony
one of the LSD's you mean you have more than one? you want to sell it lol??
morgey
one of the LSD's you mean you have more than one? you want to sell it lol??The fucked box i brought for £110 turned out to be a shorter ratio in 3rd and 4th than the ae92 c52 and fitted with a ae111 levin lsd I've now got myself a low milage cusco lsd to replace it with. If someone sends me a glanza or gt inner driveshaft cup ill see if it fits the ae111 lsd and i can sell it as a cheap upgrade for someone ;)

morgey
When is she due back on the road mate? I ment to ask you, did you ever fit that gauge?End of next week/weekend. But im also waiting for the updated v5 to come back from the dvla to tax it correctly.I did try it but it had a spud attack and kept beeping and doing what seemed like a start up sequence :/ was going to have another try at it eventually but had more important things to worry about

I was hoping you had it wired in to see who accurate it was. Been trying find more info about them online, considering ordering oil temp, AFR & EGT as they are about £40.00 all in, but wanted to check the accuracy.
morgey
Oh good news on the gearbox. J.R Dains checked over both gear sets5th and second were fucked on the levin (lsd) box but the old spare box had very good condition 2nd and 5th so no money needing to be spent there. Same with the syncro's and bearings so I've pretty much got a new box for £20 an a crate of beer fucking winner Bearings could have been had from US ebay for £120 but when i went to buy them the price had jumped to £220 :/ Local bearing places couldn't find any to suit so would have been £260 minimum for 4 toyota bearings for both input an output shafts

Tbh unless you spend a fair bit i doubt they are all that accurate. Rpm isnt all that important but the 3 you mentioned are.I've got some omori oil and water temp and oil pressure gauges i got for around £120-40 iirc but new expect to pay more like £150 each

Yeah, that's what I was hoping to check, I would be interesting to compare them. I've got glowshfit ones in at the moment, I paid amount £150 for all three.

I've got glowshfit ones in at the moment, I paid amount £150 for all three.Ahh ill look into it again at some point!Quick update on progress.Gearbox is back together and in the car, made up a new manifold to downpipe gasket at work today as the original hks one had broken up over the years. obviously i would have liked a hks gasket but the only new one people know of is the last one and its in japan! so this it what mine looks like... 1.75" each ;)Now just Got to assemble and fit that, repack inner cv joints, fit them. Fill gearbox oil up and await v5 to return so i can tax it, all £225 of it Anyway heres a few pics of the gearbox in pieces so you get an idea of what we've been upto Trying to get 5th gear off!Late spec c52 and OEM LSD.Knackered 5th gear selector arm and hub1-4th in box assembly with cusco diff fittedMore of the assembly Matt fitting the reverse gearBack togetherLeftovers... These are from an early spec c52 from a corolla gti16 few bits we needed to take like 2nd and 5th and some syncro's Anyway should be back together soon enough. Need to tax it as well as its book on for track on the 24th which requires it to be road going as its a novice session!!! Edited June 15, 2013 by morgey

Flynn
Looking at that gearbox in bits makes me sweat man.......im guessing your in the motor trade?Did i read Pauls thread correctly mate.....are the SR+'s days numbered???
morgey
Haha its actually not that bad. And no im not, neither's my mate! We just dont mind having ago at stuff, worse case scenario i had a 3rd box or i'd pay to have it put together properly! In the foreseeable future, yes. I've had the car 6 years other than this noisey as hell clunky diff im happy with the car. Theres a few bits ill be doing over the next year or so to make it as daily as possible and once i get it to that point ill do some track days attend some shows and then call it a day! I love it to bits, even more so after giving it some abuse last night with the new diff, which is fucking insane by the way, but i need to stop spending money on it. An whilst i own it that wont stop haha
Flynn
You've got more guts than me.....im one of those people who's brilliant at taking things apart but always ends up with a handfull of bits that should have gone back in lolAre we talking "fucking insane" good or "fucking insane" bad?Is the car your wanting next like the one featured in Banzai this month? So basically i've got about a year to get my shit together with mine (which is getting picked up on saturday by the way ) and we can do some tag team track time at Japfest....although they wont be strictly twins because mines moving slightly away from the sleeper look?!i really want to get it to some shows this year but i think in reality with the bodywork issues and the fact i need to stamp some ideas of my own on it that Japfest will be the first one. morgey
Haba yeah i am as well, whereas matt isn't so i usually do any major work with him in his garage so i feel implied to finish it off an he'll be on my case to get it done And its insane good! You have to be really agressive with it otherwise it causes it to understeer but if it starts doing that just apply more gas and it just pulls you into the corner like you weren't even trying!! Its just such a shame its so harsh at low speeds, but fingers crossed these additives and different oils make it more bareable! Not sure haven't seen this months banzia, i want a 98spec ae111 trueno bzr. In black ideally. I think tony's brother has a blue one actually? And Yeah ill be keeping it for at least another year so got some time to go hunting on track at the likes of japfest
Flynn
wicked man sounds awsome....if a little nuts!Shit no, my bad. The one in Banzai is an AE86 Corolla Levin (but as you can imagine its way way aways from standard) check it out if you get a chance mate, defo your sort of thing!
morgey
Ahh yeah Ae86's are something else but fetch so much money and need constant attention and to be garaged all the time or they'll just rot! Which is why i couldnt own one just yet! Anyway gave it a clean and changed the oil in the box last night after 50 miles to flush out any bits and pieces left over from the refurb.Millers oil in, diff seems slightly better, will add additive when it comes in and see what changes that makes. Also fitted the cupra splitter i got from Drongo boi Will be giving it a good clean, change the wheels to my others with AD08's for the evening session on monday and will report back after wards!
Flynn
Splitter looks good mate.....good luck for the weekend!
morgey
Thought id grab a couple of pics before i left for work this morning. Quite happy with the looks now tbh, maybe a refurb on the wheels in the future and get the front SR stickers on but generally finished the exterior Rolla powwa!! HahaWhat you guys think?
