Taggy
Oh my god im gonna kill this car, the intercooler i have bought doesnt fit! In fact none of the intercoolers on ebay fit!!The width of the front of the car behind the bumper i have to play with is 70cms but on each end of the intercooler i need to allow an extra 10cms+ in order to get a 90 degree bend in for the pipe work.None of the intercoolers i am looking at are short enough and the only one i thought would do the job is too tall and is in the way of the bonnet catch. I need one like below, but half the height! This is the one i bought from toyosportsIts not that big about 46x28x7.6cms, it does fit if i lose the bonnet catch, but obviously i cant lock the bonnet, and i am not keen on putting bonnet pins on.Its turned into a right headache, ontop of that my battery has just suddenly gone dead for no reason and no longer takes a charge, somehow its completly fucked, its only 2 years old! So got to buy another battery now, grrrrrr!!If anyone cant find me a really small intercooler, i would do ANYTHING!! lol ideally i need an intercooler with the in and out ports sticking out the back, not to the left and right.Somthing like thisThis is one awesome project mate hats off to ya keep up the good work mate
Keri-WMS
Might be worth looking at Sierra Cosworth and / or Uno Turbo intercoolers, both are funny shapes...?
Taggy
Spent all evening looking at everything and anything, I have finally found one that should do the job from "Forge Motor Sport" although its not cheap at about £180.Its the type 6 which makes it shorter as its got rear facing pipeshttp://www.forgemotorsport.com/content.asp...uct=FMINT204UNIBloody fantastic, need to just measure it now to make sure it fits underneath the bonnet catch!Might be worth looking at Sierra Cosworth and / or Uno Turbo intercoolers, both are funny shapes...? Taggy
thanks for taking the time to look tsk, I will find out the exact dimensions i have got to play with tonight, i have got a bad feeling that the forge one i looked at is going to be too tall. The width and thickness are ok but not sure on the height, that first one looks like it could be a winner how about this taggyhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTOR-BIKE-TURBO...=item4aafaf2a7aedit, might still be too tall.i will keep looking!how about this?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-5-R5-GT-...=item415b25c5famaybe turned on its side it would fit?orhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-500-1-3-JTD...=item3a6c6250besize isnt listed but could call the mobile to ask? ive seen one of these on my mates 500 and they are pretty small but they sure stay cold. Taggy
Finally! Intercooler problem now solved The dimensions to play with behind the grille are 700mm x 100mm x 280mm, got this one ebay ending this weekend so hopefully i can win it! Didnt want to pay £180 for a new one, seemed a bit pricey for just an intercooler. All i got to do now is win!!!http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...d=p5197.c0.m619Ideally i wanted the same one with rear facing in and out's but i can live with top ones and reroute the pipinghaha. im just pleased to help with the build in a very small way.if im every in the UK and your way you can pay me back by taking me for a spin in it! micky boy
That intercooler in the link above sould look sweet!!...To sorten the pipe route could you not clock the turbo? i see most people have the compressor houseing pointing down towords the floor on td40's ect if you were to come through where the rad is ect it should sorten it abit if you get me?...but if you arnt external gateed then obviously you cant clock it lol
Taggy
Nice thinking Mickyboy rotating the turbo would definetly be an option. Although to save me the hastle of doing it i'll see if he can route the piping without having to take it off first Save getting my hands dirty innit! lolThat intercooler in the link above sould look sweet!!...To sorten the pipe route could you not clock the turbo? i see most people have the compressor houseing pointing down towords the floor on td40's ect if you were to come through where the rad is ect it should sorten it abit if you get me?...but if you arnt external gateed then obviously you cant clock it lol
mech5107
Taggy, why don't you go with a I/C similar to the R5 turbo above? It seems to fit next to radiator, where now lives a plastic cover. That's what i plan to do...
Dean @RW-Developments
if your having real issues i could modify and weld an existing intercooler? how much too tall is that cooler compared to your catch? have you got a measurement? i fabricate and weld intercoolers all day long for my job so i know the crack Dean

Taggy
Dropped the car off this morning to X-Zorst in Bridgend, hoping to go pick it up in a couple of hours!Hes busy putting the exhuast on, 2.5" system front to back but with the exhaust pointing downwards to maintain the sleeper FTW look! Taggy
Finally, the exhuast system is now done and Xzorst have done a fine job, and £100 cheaper than Prosport so was well chuffed.I have got a video too front to back of the system.Ep70 (Boxy starlet) 4EFTE Turbo conversion part 15: Custom full exhuast system http://youtu.be/tFiv6_duXqsThe system is completly hidden from the rear too, you cant even see its got a thick exhaust on which is just what i wanted. If i get around to it i might get a pea shooter out the back for lols!It pulls well even without the intercooler connected so cant wait to try boost in it, need to get all the geometry setup too as its driving well weird at the moment, feels odd going around corners!
