  1. Can't argue that Adam, but what you're saying is to do with flow, not lift. Of course high lift has an effect, but as you say if the flow isn't right then that will cause problems. And what happens if the flows corrected, would the higher lift cam still cause so much of a problem. I can appreciate at idle where there is no additional pressures involved. And again back at you? Are turbo cars fussy about cams. Take the Starlet. So I am led to believe they run the same cams on the turbo as they do on the N/A right? Yet the turbo has no problems idling, nor does the N/A. Obviously I appreciate lower compressions and different levels of tune. Okay what about the otherway round. What if we took a turbo car with turbo cams. The mitsubushi evolution lancer for example. I have seen the lift ans style of those cams and they are aggressive, but very mild lift. Very mild. I bet they are different to the N/A lancer and then would Turbo cams work on the N/A car? I bought the Graham Bell books because he is well respected and I am surprised to hear about your university not agreeing. Graham does say a lot in his books. I do not advocate. I do this and I do that. Implying that is his opinion. I know tuners (two stroke) who very well rate his books. I don't know about any of this so please excuse me. I am simply regurgitating what I read in a book as I say. A book that seems to have a reputation of being factual so perhaps I am mislead. I would like to think his books are truthful up until his opinion. Of which I still take for fact which I probably shouldn't. Yeah I guess you're right about not believing everything you read in a book. But only by reading his, and other books, will I be able to understand, correlate the facts and fiction. I won't ever get the opportunity to work on a variety of cars. Only the ones I own. I will have to take what people like yourselves say. And I respect your opinions as you have the cars to back up your word. Whether fact or fiction I still agree with the consensus that the cams on the starlet are up to the task of delivering results. And I say not fussy because that's how it is read in the forced induction book. However he does say all the same rules apply to an N/A. But I think we can see that other factors play into turbo cars meaning it is no longer the cheapest way to make power. Hopefully that makes all sense and I do get what you mean. It's good to see what others think.
  2. Nah I looked for months and managed to pick a copy up for £25 believe it or not. The other books are equally good.
  3. Turbo cars aren't fussy about cams so long as they aren't too wild. Also remember high lift cams will cause excessive wear to the valve guides. There are some great books available should you wish to know more. Modern Engine Performance Tuning by Graham Bell gives a basic overview of what to look out for. I would say I am fairly smart and whoosh, straight over my head. Graham Bells Forced Induction Performance Tuning is an excellent read that I finished the other week. His opinion on cams was interesting.
  4. That Zonda is hideous lol! I think that is very tacky but one mans tack is another mans treasure for sure! Great job and bunch of cars. Would love a zonda. Perhaos a toned down version if that very car.
  5. Don't like Jags, but it is very nice I must admit The Aston is lovely too. I love the colour. Pretty cool cars!
  6. Off side rear caliper? Or going with the car.
  7. Nice one guys I'll do that when the cars back on four wheels!
  8. Gorgeous! GLWS!
  9. Hi there, In need of a used off side rear caliper if anyone has one lying about. Needs to be complete bu do not need the pad holder. Brake intends to be rebuilt so leaky seals would be fine also. Thanks
  10. Mines been sat on my drive for 12 months. Doesn't mean it's broken, I just don't drive it.
  11. People can be so harsh. Cannot you not just merit the work involved. No it is not everyones taste but its still a cool build. Love the colour. Okay the body kit isn't brilliant but to be fair I have seen TOMs body kits I don't like. I like some of the features this car has got. And I could understand the anger if he was asking £££ but he's not. It's a cool build jist perhaps their talents focus in the wrong place.
  12. I bought a shed load of stuff from Japan amd it was mega cheap. You can buy yhe same part well used in yhe UK for around the same price!
  13. Just read this start to finish. Love it mate it looks great in silver. I like how clean it is and really appreciate the silver.
  14. Who is? You mean what is a hybrid turbo. It's terminology ranges from who in the business you ask. The general concessus is any turbo that has been modified with non-standard parts. I.e. the compressor wheel size is increased, and or more blades. Some say that's it's only a hybrid if the AR ratio has been increased via modifying the housing. But I would say it's certainly a stock turbo that's running non-stock parts.
  15. Would love an import ek9. Such a lovely car.
  16. The heads are aluminium though aren't they? That site, although interesting, is more to do with cast iron.
  17. you don't know it's a new turbo. If it smokes on over run it's either new turbo SEALS or valve stem seals. Both jobs are simple to do and turbos can be rebuilt yourself. I always thought they were a specialist job but I read in Graham Bells Forced Induction Tuning that he claims this is not true. He said so long as you are careful, mark it all and don't drop any of the parts, or anything into the turbo, then it's fine to do yourself. As for valve stem seals, easy enough job I have done it with both the head on and off no problems. At the end of the day mate, what I've come to realise is, show me a Starlet that doesn't smoke. I was surprised to see some very mint examples at Rockingham this year( Japfest 2) smoking. I looked at my brother with a nod of appreciation. No smoke, no poke. Yes there are a lot of rough ones in the UK, but there are some sweet ones too. As far as I can tell, importing one only means that it's got a lower chance of not being rotten. Cars break down in Japan you know. And if it's in Japan how can you tell it's faulty until it turns up. You can get a nice Ep82 for that sort of money, and eventually it will go wrong. So saying that one hasn't got summit wrong will only be true till until it does fornt a fault, at which case you're back to square one and need a car. If you want a car like this, then either accept that it's going to have faults, at nearly 25 years old it's to be expected, or really search high and low for perhaps a members one whos has lots of history. These cars are fairly simple anyway, there won't be much that will go wrong. Things like turbos and valve stems seals are consumerables. They have a shelf life and will at one point need replacing. Just don't be disheartened if a car you see does smoke a wee bit etc. I think the important thing personally is if the shell is in decent condition, and the engine sounds healthy. The rest, well you can just fix the rest as you go. That's my two pence for all it's worth anyway. So long as you do your research, stay well AWAY from hywycombe sales, then you'll be alright. And any problems then I'm sure the lads here will help! Always helped me when I needed info.
  18. Livesports looks ace, but personally I prefer the stock one cause I like the embedded lights Lovely lovely car though!
  19. Just out of interest, I don't know the answer, does the ABS still work?
  20. Just wanted to say thanks. Yeah having the spring on the Handbrake made the job much harder, once removed it was very simple. Thanks guys.
  21. Sorry but that spoiler....suits the car perfectly! Love it. Glws.
  22. Yes brilliant video!
  23. Jeezus Look at that powerband! haha. Bet that's insanely fun! Car is gorgeous. The more I look at the non-quadlights, the more I prefer them to the Quadlights. Just looks a little more classic! Love that GL bonnet too! Suits it very well!
  24. This is the one I like lmao >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9x74SlY1ik
  25. GLWS mate. These are astonishingly good bikes! These engines are the closest thing you can get to a full blown MotoGP bike and for £1750 that's a bargain! Exactly same engine as seen in this video, the only difference is the ignition system and intake. I expect they probably port the stock barrel further! >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuBWvuyf07U
