    The only thing I can see causing you problems is the crank seals they will stop it dropping much, but I think you should be able to get them out still.

    Change the gear box oil for ATF and see if that makes any difference, these boxes dont like thick oil and 3rd is normally the first to be a problem. Dont get me wrong 3rd syncro more than likely is worn but changing the oil will make it a lot better to drive.

    Its a Fagus Sylvatica Purpurea (purple weeping beech) The plan is to take it with us when we leave this house because where were going has over an acre of land for it to spread out in! O and these species only grow to around 15ft with a 15ft spread,
