  3. Ah sweet mate. I did do an MOT check and didn't find anything with that registration which is weird.
  4. When I did my front wheel bearings, I noticed the hub was completely mangled. The chap who was going to press it in claimed he didn't damage whilst angle grinding off the old one. But told me we could fit a new bearing in. At which point I had to stop and say to him, it's failed for a reason, this looks like the reason. So, if the hub is damaged, and you aren't aware, then that could be why. I only needed the press, but the rest of the work I do myself, so I was able to make that decision.

I don't see how it's fake, it's a duck tail spoiler, just like Livesports rear spoilers are after market spoilers. It's not a fake part, it's just not OEM. I don't see how that ruins charisma.
  8. Hhhmm, have you actually seen China's tooling industry? Most of their factories are far superior to what we have in the UK. It's their quality control that let them down. Lest us not forget that there once was upon a time where "Made In Japan" carried a similar stigma for poor quality, hence Jap Crap. Either the Chinese will continue to fall by the way side on quality control, or they will get their shit together and we'll see some interesting things from them.

  11. Easy job mate. You will need to slacken off the tensions from the top. Then from underneath, with the car appropriately jacked and supported, you will need to slacken off the pivot bolt allowing the alternator to move freely. With it moving, remove the the belt. With the alternator moving, you will need to unplug the alternator harness, and remove the earth strap, 10mm nut on the top by the harness plug. From underneath the car, remove the pivot bolt and move the alternator upwards, making it clear of its locating bracket, then care
  12. How many times can you reuse these studs. I threw away perfectly good head bolts when I did the head gasket cause I stripped a cam retainer bolt thread. I probably could have reused them but I felt uncomfortable.

  14. A lot of sellers know a guy, my car sailed through the MOT in the month prior to me buying it, and it's a total wreck. Both sills rotten, the floor rotten, the wheel bearings shot brakes shot. MOT doesn't mean sod all I'm afraid. As for the undercoating, unless done upon import by someone who knows what they're doing, how are you not sure they didn't just paint over the rust, that won't fix the problem.   17. Nah I'm sure you'll get away with not replacing them, however with drivetrain components, the idea is they wear together. If there is an imperfection in the valve guide, causing oil to seap, then the imperfection will wear itself onto the valve stem. Replacing the valve guide still leaves the valves damaged, which will then cause excessive wear to the valve guide and so on so forth. Collets should be replaced as again they wear together. In practice how you follow this depends. Personally, I'd rather not risk it and just replace the lot together, even if in real world it ma

  19. The Starlet was my first car, never worked on a car before and the first thing I did on this car when I got it home was the headgasket. I'm not a mechanic, but my god was the Starlet a doddle to work on. The work to the head as outlined is minimal. It's not a hard job at all. There is a lot of work involved, for a newbie don't expect to do it yourself in a few hours. For someone who is expereinced with these cars, or cars in general, then no it's not a big job.   20. You can't just change the valve guides, collets, valves and new seals will be needed. They are components which all wear together. That said, I have yet to see a Starlet that doesn't smoke. I remember my first JapFest convoy experience, seeing some of the UK's best Starlets...little puff of blue smoke. I get that they were not excessive at idle, that's pretty bad.
