Nobody needs to get touchy, this is just random internet chat Theres nothing wrong with using a FE to get you by, but the OP made his mind up he doesnt want to do it that way which is understandable. Just like there is nothing wrong with using a Toyoshite kit (with additional bracing etc) if thats the way you want to do things. Lets be honest they are both cheap ways to go about things, yeah ? So thats why i mentioned it because of the similarities. Personal experience with them, none, but my friend has one in his V and its been nothing short of god awful tbh. Slating a FE swap is a bit out

Ive only boosted a Gen1 FE, valve springs are the same as a GT, rods are as thick and as strong as GT rods (probably are GT rods), crank is marked FTE, the only difference is the pistons which are a higher comp. This is how it came from factory and wasnt made out of random bits by me. Fair enough it isnt easy to find a Gen1 FE but i bet its equally as difficult to find a good condition FTE. Dont think its a case of not being able to afford to do it right, thats like being too tight to buy a good turbo kit and using a shitey toyosports kit thats been welded so it doesnt fall to pieces within a

And just fuckin mongos in general
-
Getting a used FTE is a stab in the dark at best, and they arent cheap imo. 400 - 500 quid for a what, 17 year old engine something like that. And dropping in a 4EFE running it a LOW boost can be done easily and has been done by many and worked well. I know its not ideal for some people but will dig you out a hole and get you by for a few months. And no you dont need to swap looms or ecu etc. All you swap over is the bare engine into the car. Use all FTE thermo housing, inlet, oil filter housing etc.

Also if you want to see how quick these N/a starlets are have a look at Enzos wee red 82 ep82 4efe starlet kudos against vs ep91 toyota st…: http://youtu.be/UDxE_DNIRws
-
I'll be joining yous in the lightweight EP82 N/a team very shortly !! Cant wait to try and squeeze out every bit of power from a N/a starlet
-
Even though 5th can be a cunt to get off id say just swapping the 5th would be the easiest way to go about it. Can just take the end cover off the box and do it with the box still in the car. And you dont need to change whole gearsets or diffs etc.
-
Ohh really, chances are its gonna be wet when i do mine. Ehh yes haha, ive got one for my birthday in a few months. Cant wait. Never owned a RWD before.

Anyone done a drift day experience ?
-
That number sounds like a difference in comp housing, just like the TD04 having a 13t or a 19t. I guess it would be the same for the TF035.
-
Neither have i tbh, only replaced one due to it seizing up. They are electronically controlled aswell and probably gonna be waaay to much work to put a variable geometry turbo on a starlet for fuck all gain haha. Im not sure what models of forester the normal TF035 were fitted to, but i have a feeling it was the older ones ?? I know a few owners swap it out for the TD04, and infact i think some came with a TD04, the STI forester had a VF41.
-
Its the one from a subaru forester you want. I pulled a TF035HL off a Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 diesel at work, flanges were totally different. It looked like a variable geometery turbo aswell.
-
If you want it on the road asap get a 4EFE engine for 100 quid max and strap the turbo stuff to it. Turn the boost down, get the fueling checked and take it easy. Then save for forged stuff and do it properly. If youre gonna do a full rebuild you may aswell pay the extra few hundred and add forged rods & pistons imo.

They are really nice cars and have the potential to be really tune-able. I prefer the Mazda 6 though, same engine big family bus with 4wd.

5E with bolt ons 120 sounds about right in N/a form

Russ is the man at mapping dastek ECUs. Aye dont think thats right lol, a CT9 hybrid should shit all over a clio 182 lol.
-
As ive said theres loads of ways to do it. However using a N/a MAP sensor (without a converter thing) and with no management is not a wise way to go about it lol.
-
That looks like a great laugh !!
-
Ive done it. Its a bit more work than just bolting a turbo on. There are also a few ways to do the conversion, way i done it i used GT looms, ECU, MAP sensor etc. Theres lots of threads in the Tech section of you have a dig
-
Flush it all out with toyota 5.1
-
Sure this question has been asked before but i cant find the thread. Is rear heating an optional extra or something, or only fitted to a few starlets like snow edition ? Ive got heating ducts that go under the carpet of my 85 and come out just behind the front seats. Havent seen it on many of them. Just wondering.
-
Yeah i will post it with the post office since its small, had couriers loose things recently. Fire me a pm with your address etc

I've got a GT throttle body. http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/83500-for-sale-gt-parts/?hl=%2Bfor+%2Bsale+%2Bgt+%2Bparts

Say that again when youre getting 15 second 1/4 mile times with 430 bhp lol.

My loom has been pulled apart and re wired, thats why mine comes from that direction.
