GT turbo won’t start after lying up for a while
Calum122 replied to myweestar5's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
You should hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition on and off. I've not heard anything about easy start, unless there is something mechanically wrong with the car and a forced start would cause it to do more damage. All I wanted to know is if there was a combustible mix, would the car start. Obviously it won't run. But would it start. If it starts then you know it's not an electrical issue and that it sounds like a fueling issue. I started my car having been on the drive for three years with the same stale fuel. After priming the engine it star -
Yeah that sounds rude!

Try spraying Easy Start into the engine. If it fires up, then it's likely to be a fuel blockage. -
Yeah, it's good to have a spare and by the sounds of it you need it too!

Nice, bummer about the box. Can you not just have it rebuilt?

Again, this is mental work. So much love going into this build.

Is this where I fill my gearbox oil?
Calum122 replied to SpoonalTap's topic in Drivetrain & Transmission
No not that one. Other side of that plug. It's hex bolt not an allen key. -

You fill from the top and wait for it to leak out that hole. And the drainage is at the bottom. The one covered in oil in bottom right hand corner of this image. Make sure the car is level on the ground before commencing the refill. The Hex bolt ontop of that cylinder in the bottom right hand corner of this image. Next to the sensor plug. -
Speaking from someone who's "Been There, Done That", I'd just get the WMS Setup. After I bought the kit, faffed around and spent money on other components, I wasn't from £400. At which point a used set came up and I grabbed those. People are breaking High Spec Starlets all the time, so getting a set is pretty easy. That's just speaking from experience.
-
The WMS setup isn't £750. 4 POT KITS (each includes calipers/brackets+inserts/bolts etc/discs): 4P107-S - Normal 275x22 size kit with best wheel clearance (printable clearance test profile: 275x22 kit PDF ) = £485.00+vat

No just the WMS four pots that they sell for these cars.

My first Car.......Ep91 Glanza called Scarlet

Well Starlet is hardly manly, just it's usually what people genuinely think the car is called. -

Shame to have cut the bumper if you asked me. But nice looking Glanza, I hate Scarlet. Cause I get people come up to me all the time, aww is that a Toyota Scarlet? -
Just out of interest, why wouldn't you just go with the WMS setup route? I got a used set on my Starlet, didn't pay much more than the Astra disc setup and with no modifications just bolt on. Now I have heard not great stuff about the WMS setup, and I can't say my car "feels" like it's on four pots. That said, I couldn't bleed the ST202 calipers yet the WMS bled instantly and passed the MOT.

I wouldn't want to run the car that low on idle. Ideally you want it idling dead on 1k.
-
I know my mate's Subaru sits around 2k on idle 6 bar when under load I think.
-
Should be getting around 2-3 bar on idle I would have thought? Sure someone can verify that.

TrisK's TOMS MK1 GT - Wheel-y big update
Calum122 replied to TrisK's topic in EP80/EP82 Progress Blogs
Keep the MK1 Rear lights Trisk. Nothing against the later lights as I think they are brilliant, but MK1's are, IMO, the best looking 4th gen Starlet made, and that's me coming from a Mk3. Other than that, chuffed about you using as a wedding car, really cool! -
Loud knocking sound after head repair
Calum122 replied to OttersPocket's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
It's as simple as that. Just make sure that the cam lobe journals are placed EXACTLY as they were removed. Easy enough as they are both labelled and numbered. -
Wow! Going to town on this build! Impressive.

I was going to link you to the one I bought, cheap JPerformance one was like £60 but it doesn't seem like they stock it anymore.

Loud knocking sound after head repair
Calum122 replied to OttersPocket's topic in 4E-FTE Engine Discussions
Well a lot of rattle bud. Tension the cam back up and see if that solves the problem. -
Fair play. Was that a ford sill? Brave cutting the whole sill off. I had to get mine done last year and it was decided that we'd just replace the rotten bits. It's a lot less work but I appreciate the effort you've gone too.

Right, well then the cam isn't tensioned properly mate and needs removal. The bolt should be able to go through and the cam removed to stop it being unsprung. Can someone just verify this for us. I'm confident I'm right. Pretty sure that will cause it to rattle a little.
