Just to clarify that the FTE springs are harder. However that is the only difference between the heads. Retainers, keepers, valves and cams etc etc etc are all the same. Free bump for a decent advert and a helpful product. Bound to get a few people out the mess.

Alloy welding the snapped metal back on isn't that much of an issue if you still have it. Mig welding alloy is surprisingly easy with the correct set up. Although if the remains aren't there anymore you may have to improvise to make it work again... Would be better off transferring everything into a new case, which is a bit of a dirty smelly mess of a job.

I've done mechanics for years, for fun and work, and still enjoy doing it. I'm not keen to work on my own car after a day at work as much... But think that's just because I'm tired. As for making more money I think you should look at the bigger picture. There are loads of ways to make money or have life experiences without having a job full stop. Decide what you want to do with your life and work around it that way instead of building your life around what money you have.

Well I'm back in a garage now and love it. Nice to be doing a wide range of jobs. Owned by my friend and his family so it's really nice to help them and work together rather than a hiarachy of shit which is what I had in previous garages. Been nice to just prove myself too rather than be told what to do with endless rules and instruction. Still doing paint work on the side lol.

Thanks for that luke. I'd better go and tidy mine up then! Although I'm not sure if my fuel is cut as well as ignition... Honestly can't remember but I'm pretty sure I just cut the ignition near the barrel. I have thought about it, but they said if it turned out to not be Thatcham approved that they would have to cancel the policy lol. I didn't even think to ask if they would insure without it being approved... She did say that they wanted to know specifically if it had an alarm and it was approved so I just assumed they wouldn't insure me if it didn't.

Cheers Luke. Based on your training, to what extent should my alarm be fitted for it to meet an approval? Currently it's wired in properly but basically twisted and taped because it was dark and I was tired and it was raining, aliens were chasing me and whatever other excuses you can imagine for me doing a shit job of it. I'm happy to take it out and do it again, but some standards to meet would be ideal.

So I'm looking for someone who is Thatcham accredited to look it over and approve it.... Next question is, does anyone know someone? A member on here maybe? Or a company to recommend... Another question for people who fitting them personally... What extent did you go to make it tidy? I know it's a personal question with it being your alarms n all, but I'm just not too convinced my fitment will be sufficient...

Possibly, but I don't know of any and if I did find one I'm not sure they would approve my fitting method lol!?

I have a TOAD alarm on my GT which I'm sure meets the requirements to be approved by Thatcham, however I fitted it myself and don't have a certificate for it... I've had a quote by my insurance company to swap over on to the GT but due to the amount of modifications they require it to have an approved alarm. How do I go about getting it approved?

I too let the guy making my exhaust cut the hole in the bumper. And as mikey said, it's inevitable that you will discolour the bumper and possibly melt it depending on how hot it gets and if it flames at all. My advice on making a hole for a ready made exhaust would be to just use a tape measure from the wheel to the centre of the exhaust and from the floor to the centre of the exhaust to find the middle, take exhaust off and put bumper on, make a 20mm hole on your axis and see how it lines up with the exhaust on the best you can before cutting it to the proper size.

There are two units that are before the king lead. Have you changed both? I think the DB level with exhausts is a little deceiving sometimes. I mean for example, if you're stood a mile away from my car at WOT you probably wouldn't hear it, but stood near it it's pretty loud... Yet when it used to be internally gated with a japspeed exhaust, you'd hear it for miles but when stood next to it, it wasn't as bad.... Deeper notes travel further I think, and screamers are very high pitched... But I'm not sure which is actually louder, or if it's possible for deeper but quieter notes to travel further than louder high pitched notes... Either way my best answer for you is to

I've driven probably 6 or 7 scoobies varying in performance and handling mods and still, in all honesty, felt they were so boring. I expected so much more from them...
